Fixing the closed-captioning bug on iPads

Please forgive if this is common knowledge, but here's my fix for the troublesome issue where the closed-captioning stays on when using the iPad, and toggling the 'CC' button does nothing.

 

First, recognize that the problem in my view is more of an Apple/iPad thing than a TiVo thing (although apportioning responsibility is a gray area).

 

Here's what I did:

  • Go to the iPad General Settings, then Accessibility
  • Scroll down to MEDIA, then 'Subtitles & Captioning.'
  • Simply toggling the button here to the OFF position made no difference
  • Instead, select 'STYLE' and then change the style to something else by choosing 'Create New Style.'
  • Here, all I did was choose small font size.
  • The key is changing the default style to something else

  • Going back to the TiVo App, I saw that closed-captioning was still in effect. HOWEVER, it was in the new small-font style I had chosen in the iPad settings.
  • Furthermore, when I toggled the 'cc' button on the TiVo app, closed-captioning disappeared!
