Tivo versus Comcast DVR
Jan 6, 2005 at 2:20:37 PM  |  #1
I currently own a Tivo DVR, but have recently been contacted by my cable company, Comcast, regarding their DVR service. Can you tell me the difference, i.e. the pros and cons of each. My understanding is the Comcast DVR can record in HDTV format, which I cannot currently do with my Tivo. Is this something Tivo plans to offer in the near future and will it require the purchase of an additional box?

Re: Tivo versus Com cast DVR
What brand/model of the HD DVR are they offering you? This is very important. IF it is not the two tuner Motorola, don't even consider it.

Comcast has several, but primarily:
- Motorola single tuner (no season pass, no time bar, fwd blows)
- Motorola dual tuner (much better than the single tuner and has season pass and time bar)
- Scientific Atlanta A (dual tuner, but not season pass)

None of them do wishlists. No of them have the silky smooth Tivo rew/ffw controls.
But, the two tuner Motorola is a lot closer, and has the mandatory season pass they call series.

A DVR is not a DVR without a season pass!! It is a more efficient VCR.
