I went ahead and installed it without thinking.  I think it automatically loaded a recording to iTunes, but I am not sure.  I will keep testing, but if anyone already knows, that would be helpful.

Thanks

It doesn't look like it at least for Vista users. I did as you and installed itunes 9.0 and it basically broke my Tivo Desktop.

Here is the error I got:

The procedure entry point sqlit3_prepare_v2 could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll.

I tried going back to itunes 8 but the library was already updated so I would have to start from scratch on itunes which I didn't want to do.

I also uninstalled Tivo Desktop 2.7 and went to 2.6.2. Tivo Desktop now works but the Plus upgrade does not recognize the new version of Quick time.

I am kind of annoyed since neither will really work for me.

I have been following your thread at TCF too.  I think you will need to remove, clean out, and reinstall iTunes and Quicktime to fix this.

Here is my understanding of what went wrong for me a couple of years ago when I had a similar problem.  Because TiVo Desktop was running it held open some iTunes or Quicktime component.  The iTunes installer was therefore not able to do a clean install, and didn't catch it and fix it on a reboot.  In my case the symptoms had to do with iTunes automation and not only TiVo Desktop transfers of converted files into iTunes broke, but I was also no longer able to have music purchased from Amazon go into iTunes.

There are some clear, but longwinded instructions on Apple's website about how to fully remove and clean up the iTunes and Quicktime installations so that a full re-install of both of those from scratch can be tried.  When I did that it, worked for me.

This latest update to 9 worked for me on XP SP3.  I did stop exit the TiVo server as a precaution before running the update, but don't know if that is required.  Music purchased from Amazon since then did load into iTunes correctly, so I believe the automation interface is working correctly for me.

I undertand that is a pain.  I hope that doing the removal, cleaning and re-installing will work to fix it for you both.  As a precaution I suggest you both exit the TiVo server when doing this.

I did as you suggested yesterday. I uninstalled itunes 9.0 and all of the components, restarted the computer, deleted all files with itunes. I also uninstalled tivo desktop 2.6.2 just as a precaution. I reinstalled itunes 9.0. Reinstalled tivo Desktop 2.7. Now I got rid the of the error that kept coming up, but Tivo desktop did not recognize Quicktime, so I had to go into the registry to update Plus, then the Tivo server stopped working and I get the big red X. I uninstalled Tivo Desktop 2.7 and installed 2.6.2. Now the Tivo server stays running and I don't get the error messages.

I don't think the problem was only in stopping the Tivo server from running as I have Vista business on my computer and even with the suggestions the Tivo Desktop 2.7 stops running with and without the error messages and fresh install.

I have heard that 2.7 and some versions of Vista don't seem to get along.  I am glad to hear that a clean re-install of iTunes corrected the error message.  I am hoping that full removal of TiVo Desktop isn't required to do that, but I can see that it was probably a reasonable precaution.

Ok, it apears I was off base.  ggieseke has done some analysis and posted it at TCF in this thread:

It appears to be an Apple problem.  He links a workaround or fix in the TCF thread that is more likely to help you out than the advice I gave above.
