I have Directv in my home...I would like to purchase a Tivo unit off of eBay with a lifetime subscription, is this possible with Directv????

Directv ony offers a $5.00 @month subscription plan...is that my only option??

Anyone that can give me some advise on this, would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,

If you are talking about an integrated DIRECTV® DVR with TiVo® service, it is not possible to buy one with a lifetime service. Lifetime service on those units is tied to the subscriber and is not transferrable.

The subscription fee is waived if you have TOTAL CHOICE® PREMIER.

Thanks for your responce!

I guess what I would really like to know is, can I purchase "any" Tivo unit and have it work with my Directv system?? I would prefer to buy one with a lifetime subscription, rather than haveing to pay monthly, or paying close to $100 @month for Directv's TOTAL CHOICE PREMIER to get it for free.

Thanks again for your help, I'm just trying to figure out my options.

It is remotely possible, if the seller is quitting DirecTV altogether, and you work with the seller and DirecTV to transfer it, but most likely they are hacked to give the appearance of lifetime (which is illegal), plus have software being illegally sold with the it..

So what you are telling me is that I "have" to purchase a Tivo from Directv, if I want to hook it up to my satellite.

I was hoping that any Tivo unit would work with Directv. If I am incorrect in my understanding of this, please advise me.

Thanks,

The directv tivo unit has a special dual tuner system in it. This makes it possable to watch tv and record on the tivo at the same time and have all the tivo functions working at the same time. If you get another tivo unit, one that is not a directv one, you would not be able to watch tv and record at the same time with the tivo functions on. You would be watching tv on the actual tv, not through the tivo. And I'm pretty sure that there is some programming that is in the directv tivo so that it can get the signal from the dish. The normal tivos cannot do this. i would call up a direct tv support person to verify that though. But I'm pretty sure thats the way it is.

direct tv has one promotion going on now that allows you to buy the direct tv tivo for $50 (after mail in rebate) and then if you get the "total choice plus" package for 45.99/mo, you get the $5 tivo subscription fee waved. And you also get professional installation free. But again, call them to double check this. This is just what i saw online on directv's website.
